Journal #16. Qstns. #1-4, 8 (Answer #8 in a paragraph), p. 195. Test review activity (Ben Franklin, Patrick Henry, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, Crevecoeur, Olaudah Equiano):

  1. Summary of each work. What is it about?
  2. Identify and list features of major works. What makes them stand out for the works of others? How are they unique?
  3. Notes on the most important/concept during this time. Support from all major works.

Hmwk: prepare for test on Thursday (2nd half of class).

Due by the end of class. Start reading "Rip Van Winkle" aloud. Hmwk: complete reading "Rip Van Winkle" by Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Thurs Journal #23. Complete PBS Thomas Jefferson. To turn in today: Write a paragraph in which you agree/disagree with one of these statements: 1) Thomas Jefferson would have been a great personal friend. 2) Apparent inconsistencies in Thomas Jefferson's life detract from his significance. Begin with a topic sentence and support your position with references to elements of TJ's life. End with a concluding sentence. No hmwk.
Week of November 15 to 19
Tues Movie vs. Short Story, Part I. Watch "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" video. Hmwk: Movie vs. Short Story, Part II.
Thurs Mid-quarter English notebook check. Record credit for completed hmwk assignments. Journal #24. Discuss hmwk notes. In-class writing: evaluate the dramatization of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" or write a screenplay proposal for your dramatization of "Rip Van Winkle" or "The Devil and Tom Walker." No hmwk: have a happy Thanksgiving!!!

Thurs Journal #25. Reading quiz on "The Minister's Black Veil." Read history about Paul Revere's ride, and read "Paul Revere's Ride," by Longfellow. Assign spelling words for final exam. Hmwk: research on the Internet for recipes, ingredients, decorations, and history of Colonial Christmas. Due Mon. for home ec and Tues for English.
Week of December 6 to 10
Tues Journal #16 (Banquet redux). Collect supplies and make authentic decorations for a Colonial Christmas.
Thurs Colonial Christmas Celebration in conjunction with home ec class (food and decorations). Read "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" and "The Tailor of Gloucester." Hwmk: Study spelling words.
Week of December 13 to 16
Tues Journal #27 (Exam preparation: What do you need to do to prepare to be successful? What have you already done? What grades are you expecting to earn?) Review for final exam. Spelling word practice and spelling bee. Hmwk: study for final exam. Study spelling words.
