Tues Journal #29. Test prep activity continued. (Checked off for points at the end of today's class period.). Hmwk: prepare for test.

Thurs Journal #30. Discuss role of fairy tales and folk tales in society. Read Grimms' Fairy Tales aloud in class: "The Brave Little Tailor," & "Rumpelstiltskin." No hmwk.
Week of October 25 to 29
Mon Journal #31. Intro to grammar unit. Diagnostic test, p. 341-2. Discussion about format for writing grammar exercise answers. Read pp. 342 to 344. Do ex. 1 & 2. (Due by the end of class.) Hmwk: Look at your last two journal entries. On a fresh sheet of notebook paper, copy 10 sentences. (Try to find several sentences that include proper nouns.) Circle one noun in each sentence, and put a star above each proper noun.
Tues (Academy Day) Journal #32. Collect hmwk sentences with circled nouns. Read story aloud.
Wed Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences. No afternoon classes. (10th graders in PLAN test in the morning.)

Mon (Power Week) Journal #33. Ex. 3 (go over in class). Read "Pronoun" section. Ex. 4. Hmwk: Using every other line, write 10 sentences with at least 2 nouns in each. Neatly cross out 2 nouns in each sentence and substitute an appropriate pronoun above each crossed out noun. (Try to use different pronouns.)

Tues Journal #38. Syllabus Addition. Notes from yesterday continued. Hmwk: Study for noun, pronoun, adjective quiz tomorrow. Prepare for spelling quiz on Thursday. (You can prepare any way you want to. Just keep in mind that you'll be writing out every word you miss on the spelling quiz 25X. Prepare so that you won't have to write any words out.)

Complete ex. 14-19. Hmwk: compose five sentences that each contain all of the parts of speech that we have covered so far (noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, & adverb). Label all five parts of speech in each sentence. Complete writing out spelling words missed on the quiz--if necessary. Due Wed.
