MonSpelling pre-test. Return papers. Complete Identifying simple subjects and verbs worksheet started before spring break--by way of review. Do ex. 9 and 10.
Hmwk: Complete Identifying simple subjects and verbs worksheet, ex. 9 and 10 before class tomorrow.
TuesGo over worksheet. Notes on board with examples: subjects in unusual positions, compound subjects, and understood subject. Do Subjects in Unusual Places worksheet. In light of notes and explanations, revisit ex. 9 and 10 before class tomorrow.
Hmwk: Complete Subjects in Unusual Places worksheet, ex. 9 and 10. Due at the beginning of class tomorrow.
WedGo over ex. 9 and 10. Go over Subjects in Unusual Places worksheet. Compound verbs. Begin work on ex. 11 and 12. (Directions for both exercises: Copy sentences onto your paper. Cross out all prep phrases. Underline verb twice. Underline subject once.)

Week of April 6 to 10
MonSpelling pre-test. Parts of the Sentence. Finish rev. ex. B & D. Review for subjects and predicates test (tomorrow). Do rev. ex. C following same directions (Wed). Pass back graded papers. Journal #24 (Untimed: Where would you rather be? Underline 5 prep phrases, 5 simple subjects, 5 verbs, 1 complete subject, and 1 predicate.)
Hmwk: Prepare for tomorrow's test on subjects and predicates. If necessary, add to your notes so that they will be beneficial to you while you are working on the test tomorrow.
TuesParts of the Sentence. Test: subjects and predicates. (OK to use notes). Read pp. 399-401. Do ex. 15 and 16. Go over exercises in class. No hmwk.
WedParts of the Sentence. Go over yesterday's test in detail. Write notes and examples from test into class notes. Practice for re-take by using new copies of worksheets and checking answers. Return graded papers.

TuesSpelling pre-test. Discuss prep phrases as adjective, adverbs. Additional notes on board. Go over Diag. Test A and ex. 2 identifying prep phrases as adj/adv. Draw arrows (for adjectives) and identify question answered (for adverbs: why? where? how? why?)
