Writing Self Assessment

When I introduced the writing assignment you have just finished, I emphasized that I would discuss various ways to accomplish each step so that you could pick methods that best work for you. My goal has been to help each student figure out how to best write a quality paper. To this end, we have spent significant class time thinking about how to customize the writing process to your own needs.

What have you figured out that you need to do for an ideal writing outcome?

Write a detailed "Writing Self Assessment" identifying what works for you at every stage of the writing process:

  • What are the ideal circumstances for you at each stage of the process? (ex: morning or evening? full tummy or hungry? noise or silence? inside or outside? with company or alone? etc.)

  • What works? What doesn't work? (What did you try that you discovered works really well for you? What did you try that you know you will never use again because it didn't help you?)

  • What practical methods are you going to be able to take to college?

  • The most important question: If you had to write a quality paper in a short period of time--day or two--what would you have to do to achieve a GOOD essay?
