Xylem tissue is found in the vascular bundle of the primary plant and in the center of the plant where secondary growth occurs. It carries water and minerals upward in the tree. It is composed of tracheids, vessel elements, fibers, and parenchyma cells. In the vascular bundle in the leaf, it occurs above the phloem just under the bundle cap in the midvein.
