This is a term that generally refers to leaves as they die. They wither, or wrinkle, turn brown or other colors and finally fall from the tree. Withering is the wrinkling and turning color part of the leaf's death. The falling off the tree is called abscission.
Whorled refers to the arrangement of either buds or leaves along the stem. Whorled budding or leaves is two buds or leaves per node.
