Release These Atoms

When I die and you bury me
Forget the coffin and let me be
A part of the earth and food for plants;

I want the roots to seek my heart,
Invade my bones and make me part
Of something green and growing, a chance

To re-enter life but not its pain,
To feel the wind, the winter rain,
Never forced to find a shelter

More than a roof of grass and sod
To perforate with leafy head
Absorbing sun and making food

For roving insect, mammal, bird,
Detritivores by billions assured
Of life by right of recycled life.

Release these atoms and molecules,
Transmutate flesh and blood to tools
For making nature's house complete.
