Until the Dawn

A wall, a fence,

A fortified tower,

It's all a trick

Of gruesome power.

Is the enemy in?

Is he at the gate?

The tables are turned;

I fear my fate.

How can enemies

Fight this way?

The battle was over

Another day,

And yet it rages

Like cold, hot fire

Eating my soul

As a funeral pyre.

To lay my sword,

My weapon aside,

Concede defeat,

Give up my pride,

I will not quit,

Admit I'm beat,

I still plod on,

On faulty feet.

Another field,

A battle line,

Drawn in haste

To show a sign

To all who dare

To carry on,

To fight--hope lost--

Until the dawn.
