Recognizing Functional Groups

You would do well to know as many of the names below as possible, but you do need not know how to recognize these molecules at the specific molecule name level (e.g. testosterone).

  1. Lipid, phospholipid, phosphatidylcholine.
  2. Amino acid, threonine.
  3. Lipid, steroid, testosterone.
  4. Carbohydrate, monosaccharide, aldose, ribose.
  5. Nucleotide, nucleoside-5'-monophosphate, deoxyadenosinemonophsophate (dAMP)
  6. Carbohydrate, monosaccharide, ketose, fructose.
